Synopsis of the inagural meeting of the Executive Diversity Council:
Diversity champions from major corporations, U.S. and international government, academic institutions, not for profit organizations, charity groups and renowned experts met in Washington, D.C. on February 28-29, 2008 for the inaugural meeting of Diversity Spectrum's Executive Diversity Council.
The Council is a working group/think tank aimed at leveraging the diversity and inclusion mission to benefit and educate all key stakeholders, professional growth of practitioners and positively impacting social change.
Throughout the year, the Council will showcase its initiatives and findings to both educate and involve the Diversity Spectrum audience. It should be noted that, to create an open, honest environment of sharing experiences and information, Council members established that the content of meetings will be confidential. During the inaugural meetings, the Council analyzed the "tough" and forward-thinking topics related to diversity and Council members shared both best-in-class practices and worst-in-class mistakes.
The Council is unique because it brings together corporate, U.S. government, international governments, academia, not for profits, charities, and renowned issue/area-specific experts. Additionally, the diversity of the Council members showcase the global patchwork of our society. The Council aims to develop a best-in-class a model of cross-network connectivity that can be adopted to impact all stakeholders.
Diversity Spectrum President Lynn Heffron commented "The Council developed organically out of request of many diversity professionals yearning for a group that would allow them serve as agents of change and innovation in both the profession and for the greater good."
The Council met on Thursday, February 28 at the prestigious Army-Navy Club and on Friday, February 29 in the historic Lyndon B. Johnson Room in the U.S. Capitol.
